I think my thermostat is stuck..

Ever since I've had it, my Z134 equipped '55 TO35 has run at 140-150 Fahrenheit when its warmed up. Last summer, I replaced the thermostat and hoses on it with pieces I got from this site. I thought the new thermostat would allow it to warm up a bit more. I put fresh antifreeze in it also. With the new thermostat, it still only got up to 150 or so.
Some time after this, the water pump housing gasket started seeping. Like a big dummy, I put some Bar's Leaks Pellets in the radiator. This only stopped the leak for a few days, I then went ahead and put a new gasket on it like I should have done in the first place. Some time after this repair, the tractor got to where the guage wouldn't budge off the 100 mark, as low as it goes. I'm thinking the Bar's Leaks seized the thermostat open.
It may be elementary, but how hot should this engine get? It seems the oil pressure is a bit lower now also, I'm guessing the cold engine is not allowing the oil to warm up and flow as well as it could. I suppose the next thing to do is flush out the cooling system and put a new thermostat in, unless other people think I should try other things.

Your thermostat should be a 180 degree stat, meaning it's full open at about 180. They usually start to open around 160 degrees. With a good clean radiator, your TO35 temp should probably run ~180-190 under normal load.
I've never been a fan of any of that leak-stop stuff. Tends to clog-up everything, which is pretty much what it's suppose to do. I agree with Gerold, pull your thermo, check it in a pan of water with a candy thermometer to make sure it is opening/closing like it's suppose to. Flush out your system real good and install a new thermo if needed.

Certainly sounds like the thermostat is stuck open or is opening prematurely.

I always check old and new thermostats in a small pot of water on the kitchen stove. I use a thermometer to check the water temperature as the thermostat opens.

Check your dash temperature gauge too. I'd use one of the instant read dial thermometers available at hardware stores for about $7. Check the water in the top radiator tank when its warmed up.

Another check for the thermostat is to look for water circulation in the top radiator tank while the engine is cold there should be none and with the engine run long enough to be warmed up (and thermostat open) there should be visible circulation. If there's circulation right after starting the thermostat isn't closing.

Be sure when you replace the thermostat that the sensing bulb is towards the engine, not the radiator, or it won't open.

Thanks Gerald. I'll get into it as soon as time and weather permits. By the way, what temperature do these old tractors tend to run at under a normal load when warmed up properly?

Depends on the thermostat, but a 180 thermostat should hold right close to 180. Maybe on a hot summer day plowing hard it will rise to 195, but since there's a bit of pressure in the cap, and you use permanent antifreeze that boils at at a higher temperature than plain water, it won't boil at 212. It probably can run up to about 230 with the combination of antifreeze and pressure cap.

It should warm up to 180 no matter how cold it is if the thermostat is working. It may warm up faster of the air flow through the radiator is limited.
