Rockshaft repair

I read where lots of folks are hassled with the rockshaft bushing replacment. But no one seems to mention anything about wear on the rock shaft. If the bushings are worn, so could be the rockshaft as if my case. Thinking about welding up the low side and then turning down again in the lathe. I only have standard MIG steel wire and also Stainless wire. Which would be best?

I don't see any rockshafts (lift shaft) under Ford 2,9,8N's; and so-called Lift Shaft under TO-30 for $169. Not even sure on the bushings as the size shown in the TO30 parts list is the wrong size - much to short as one needs 3" long bushings; which I have already secured elsewhere. So the rockshaft is the problem but only if I want to spend a lots of bucks and get new. So think I will go with the weld build up. Thanks.

Hi Jerry, I noticed that AFTER I sent the reply. In the UK Ferguson call it a Hydraulic Cross-shaft, I am getting used to some of the different things that you call the parts in the US but I don't always pick up on it straight away when I am reading quickly and when you have called it something else for all the years that I have done it does take some getting used to and then we have the Australians using other terms for certain parts as well, not always easy...Merry Christmas Jerry and a Happy New Year....John

When I worked with the Rolls-Royce guys at Darby, we used to say we were two peoples separated by a commmon language! I think that"s pretty accurate.

John, I was wondering what had happened to you myself, but I figured you needed a vacation from operating the Ferguson Frustration Forum. Jerry/MT has been working overtime fielding queries, haven"t heard much from Jeff-Oh recently. Hope everything is okay with him. If there ever was a chance to say this, it is now. I really enjoy and appreciate interacting with everyone on this forum. Reading through the conversations that we have and adding my penny"s worth when I can is always one of the highlights of my day. I"m sure many of you all grew up on farms or out in the country as I did. Country neighbors tend to be different than those in the city. They help each other out on projects, swap chores, and lend each other tools and equipment. I believe we accomplish much the same effect on this forum. People such as John(UK), Jerry/MT, and Jeff-OH spend untold hours trying to help virtual neighbors solve problems and accomplish important things. Less experienced folks like me chime in whenever they have something to add of value, every little bit helps. I never thought that the experiences involved in owning a 52 year old tractor would be so rewarding, but they are. To all my Ferguson friends, thank you, lets have a wonderful 2008.

Sorry not to have replied earlier Jerry but I have had my wife in hospital with pneumonia and now I have a chest infection too, no doubt caught it at the hospital. May I wish and your family all the best wishes for the New Year 2008..John
