Regarding TO30 axle seals, the inner seal is easy and you can pull it without removing the axle. The outer seal is pressed on and you have to remove the axle, which you can take to a machine shop if you wish and have a new seal and bearing pressed on. (That's what I do.) The brake shoes may need to be replaced. Some people try to clean them, but the results are often unsatisfactory if they are truly saturated. Four brake shoes are about $60 as I recall, although that price could be out of date. When you replace the axles, make sure you put the shims back as before. When all done, if you rotate one wheel forward, the other should rotate back. If it does not rotate, you have too many shims, and if it rotates same direction you have too few. Hope that helps.

Usually it is the round seal that goes hard and brittle and cracks that leaks. but is can be the ones up the side of the bearing housing if they are not fitted properley and if they are too short so don't butt up against the block...John

If you have a TO20 then it only has one seal to each axle-shaft and you can fit a SURE SEAL which will add the additional seal that usually stops the oil leaks. You can buy these SURE SEALS from this site, just look in the parts section, they are not expensive, you will also need 4 new gaskets for the axle-shaft hubs.
If you have a TO30 , this already has two seals fitted and you will need to pull the Bearing and Hub off the Axle-shaft to replace them. This is a tough Job and you need a puller to do it. If you need info about a TO30, email me and I will send it with some pictures to you....John

John,

Where can you find the 4 gaskets for the axle-shaft hubs? I see the sure seals from this site but not the gaskets. I am about ready to tackle this job on my TO-20 because of leaking seals.

Sparex do them as part S42622...MF part is 181232M1 but it may have twice as many holes in it than you need but it will fit and it does do the job. It is from the 35 series. The one from Sparex is ok and has the correct number of holes. You will need to find your nearest Sparex dealer by emailing them at [email protected], tell them where you live and they will let you know who the dealer is....John
