TO 30 rod and main bearings

I just picked up a TO 30 basket case. The previous owner had started putting back together and lost interest. It has a newly ground crank and new bearings. Do the bearing caps go on with the tabs in the bearings facing towards or away from each other? My book is pretty vague in this matter.

I bought my TO-20 in '77 and use it regularly, but I just recently found this site, and realize how much info is out there about my tractor that I didn't know.

ct..., I wouldn"t mind finding a basket case like that, sounds like the hard part, and large portion of the cost investment is already done. Putting together is the easy part.
It is typical to mark the bearing caps prior to removal with punch or chisel marks so they can be re-assembled in the original orientation. Take a real close look at your parts to see if that might be the case. According to the service manual, "the notches for the tongues of the bearing liners must be on opposite sides of the shaft." If your using a I&T service manual. it is well worth the extra ~$30 or so to get a re-print Ferguson service manual. That manual is literally 100 times more detailed than the I&T.
