GL-1 oil, I must have spent an hour and a half reading every label on every brand and every weight of oil in TSC today. None of the oil they cary mention GL-1 nor does any mention yellow metal safe. Wondering what others use, where do you purchace it from and whats the average cost.

I do not personally... Only because the TSC is 20 miles away and the NAPA store was 7. Also, at the time NAPA's 5 gal bucket was $27.50 while TSC's was $35.00... Yes, it's been about 2 to 3 years since I changed the transmission oil.

At TSC it is the Ford Transmission oil. At NAPA it SN 65-205. Call ahead and order it in, it may need to come from a wearhouse... Takes a day or so to get to the store.

It's also called worm gear oil, and the John Deere dealer probably has it.

You can use Multi-grade oil if you can't get GL1, it will be better in really cold conditions. use 15W/30....John

Some TSC stores do carry it. For sure you can order it at a NAPA store and get it in a couple of days, if they don't stock it. The cheapest place I've seen it is at Agri-Supply, which is based in NC, but does have a store in Petersburg, VA, right off I-95, just in case you travel down to the Richmond area at any time.

Had to tell the local Napa store that Napa has it and he ordered it in for the next day.

LOL.... I don't trust anyone in any of the parts stores, have gotten to many wrong parts and bad advice too many times. These stores always try to higher the cheapest labor they can but advertise they only higher "experienced" people... Perfect example, just bought an auger at TSC drove 15 miles home, installed the unit only to find out that gear lube wasn't shipped with the auger, had to drive back to the store. I would think that experienced people would have informed me that I also needed gear lube. Last month I needed an alternator for my 85 Dodge Ram D150, Should have taken the old one in with me, they gave me the wrong part thus I had a 35+ mile round trip drive to return it for the right one. All these experience is why I value this place and all you folks that have been there and done that and share the same interest as I.

Thanks for the part number Rusty.

Looked up NAPA auto parts in my area, didn't know of any around, its no wonder.... They keep bankers hours, not open on Sunday close by 1 on Saturday and only open till 6 during the week.... I'm going to have to find one close to work.....
