I have a TO 30 that I use for snowplowing. I have calcium chloride in rear wheels and chains but still tractor easily stuck. I am thinking about a rear scraper blade instead.
I assume any blade made for a category one hitch would be fine, any ideas as to best length? Has any one else used such a blade for snow.

I do have a lot of drift in my three point hitch (Doesn,t hold implement where you leave it)

Hi
On the family farm we have been using our 1950 TO-30 since it was new to plow the driveways. We have about 200 yrds worth. We have the tires filled but have never used chains. We use a 7 Ft. Dearborn Heavy Duty blade. The tractor does get pushed around a bit and you have to watch for it getting bottomed out in deep snow but I wouldn't have anything else for snow removal. In 1984 we converted to 12 volt and it has never failed to start. I don't know where you live but I can cut 4 foot drifts without a problem.

I have been using a light wt. 8 ft. blade on my TO 30. Have fluid in tires and chains. Just use draft control and hav eno trouble with that. You can get a bracket that bolts onto the axel with the fender bolts and a stabilizer bar to telp with side sway of the blade. Heavy snow will push the tractor around some. Good luck and have fun.

I have a TO-20 and this was the first winter I used it for snow removal. I bought a 6Ft "King Kutter" brand blade and it's worked great the only thing I had to get used to was trying to move a lot of deep or heavy snow with the blade angled the rear end of the tracotr had a tendency to be pushed to the side. Taking smaller cuts or plowing before the snow got too deep took care of the problem. I don't use chains or weights and haven't had any trouble. Good luck.

King Kutter has a web site at www.kingkutter.com although I'm sure there are alot of other good brands out there.

I have used a 7' dearborn on my TO 20 for years and it works fine most of the time. Get a 7' blade as it will only be 5' or so angled and you have to clear the tires by a tad as the 7' does. Mine won't work worth spit without chains period. I have done it and always regretted it in the end. The Zane thing is handy and easy to put on in a few minutes. It helps a lot with control of the blade when you don't want to dig in. I don't use any runners on the blade either on the blacktop or gravel. These tractors definitely push lots better than they reverse. Not a lot of traction there and the T0-20 hasn't got enough speed in reverse to use inertia. I plow about 950' of drive on my own lane near the Canadian border in NY.

I use a 6ft. Woods backblade on my TO-35. No chains, but loaded rear tires. It seems to work pretty well, although I agree with Michael that the rear end does tend to slide over some. I'd also like to get rid of the side sway in the hitch , but it hasn't caused any problems plowing yet.About the only negative is that you get a crick in your neck looking back all the time!:)
