PTO output shaft seal

can some one give me some info on the best way to change this. i have been told that it easy if you have the pto in the proper gear.

Nothing will fall out - except the oil!

Slide out - slide in, alight the spline.

Manual suggests that if you can drop the front wheels into a ditch (or jack up the back) so the front wheels are 12 to 15 inches below the horizontal, you can remove the PTO shaft without draining the oil.

Probably a better idea to change the oil anyhow.....

You may find you have some difficulty in removing the circlips that hold it all together. You need some small screwdrivers that you can force under the clip and others to wedge under it and work around it to force it out of the groove. If you still have trouble, just email and I will send you more details.....John

John, I am also going to replace the PTO seal (when my parts arrive). Are those circlips going to be reusable or do I need to plan on replacing them also?

The circlips will be ok to use again. They are quite substantial, just awkward to get out...John

There is no PTO "Proper" Gear.
You'll want to disengage the PTO.
Drain the Oil From the Trans mission case.
Or park the tractor nose down on an incline and drain as needed to get oil level down below the PTO shaft. Oil can be re-used if clean.

Undo the four bolts that retain the PTO shaft pull the shaft out and switch out the seal.

When I pull the shaft out nothing inside will fall out of place?

Then I change the seal and it will slide back in that easy?

the seal I am going to be changing is on a TO-30
if that makes any diff.

any info will be helpfull i work on harleys most of the time

I just don't want more work if i just pull the shaft out
