Thanks George from Ohio! Your advise was dead on. I did the jumper from the F terminal to ground and noted just a quiver of voltage then nothing. Took the cover off the generator not good. Saw blackened armature windings. Sent off to local generator shop. Nice job and only $35.
Put generator back on then did the field test. Yes! 15 amps on the ampmeter on the tractor. With jumper gone nothing. Pulled batery cable engine dies. Ok next like you said the base of the voltage regulator MUST make a good ground. It was rusty down below that battery area. Cleaned the base and retested the voltage regulator with the regulator cover off. Yes now I have plus on the ampmeter but cuts back way too soon. There are two point solenoids inside the regulator and I pushed a little on the one closest to the key switch which controlled the ground to the field. Wow you could make the ampmeter on the tractor go where you needed it. I loosened the nut that adjusted the point pressure. It took me three times trial and error but I got the ampmeter output and cutback where I wanted it. You save me the cost of a new woltage regulator by just sanding the regulator and mounting base!

John, your welcome. Thanks for getting back with us. I LOVE hearing success stories! Especially cost effective success stories. Now drive that TO around a while to charge-up your battery so your TO will start on those cold Iowa mornings!
