Sorry to be so wordy, but I like to give background to my yarns before getting to my question.I've been wanting to acquire a set of pie weights for my Ford 800 but have been unwilling to pay freight from 1500 miles away. So I decided to start buying up the individual pieces whenever I found them. One day I noticed a friend's TO-20 had the wheel stud adapters. I asked him if he had the weights that go with them. He said no. I asked if I could have the stud adapters if I got him some regular lugnuts to replace them. He said that would be great since he was about ready to torch the studs off the adapters anyway. About 3 weeks later I went to his place with some wrenches and a set of lugnuts....Ford lugnuts....I didn't know the Ford used 5/8" wheel studs and the Ferguson used 9/16" studs. Some time later I came into possession of a bunch of Ford and Ferguson loose parts. Include with them was 13 stud adapters (9/16" for Ferguson) and a full set of regular 9/16" lugnuts. I returned to my friends house armed with wrenches and the correct lugnuts. I was in for another surprise.

The adapter on the left is the one I removed from my friend's TO-20. The one on the right is one that came with my collection of loose parts. Both have 9/16" female thread and both will thread on a Ferguson wheel stud.

Here's where the surprise comes in. The one on the left (taken off the TO-20 yesterday) has 5/8" male studs like a Ford. The other on the right has 9/16" studs just like the stud on the Ferguson wheel. Also, the large hex section on the purple one on the left takes a 1-1/8" wrench. The smaller one on the right takes a 1-1/16" wrence like the regular lugnuts. So, the question is, does anyone know why they would make an adapter that increased stud size from 9/16" to 5/8"? Was there a specific piece of equipment or accessory that required this change of stud size?
