have you adjusted the main jet and the idles jet. Tighten the power jet(big screw on fuel bowl)lightly and then screw it out 1-1/8 turns. Turn the idle mixture screw in til it bottoms lightly and then screw it out 3/4 turns. Now try a start and see if choking helps.

These old machines were often parked in the north 40 and left for 20 years until someone bought them and tried to get them running. There is all manner of crap and corruption in the fuel delivery system.

Get a container to catch the fuel and open the tank valve fully. Remove the plug at the bottom of the carb. The fuel should gush out like a cow peein" on a flat rock. If it doesn"t, put the plug back in and remove the carb fuel inlet elbow and check the "secret filter" in there. Work you way back to the tank valve until you find the fuel resitriction. There is a small filter above the sediment bowl, check that. Finnaly, you may have to remove the tank valve itself because often there is a screen in the tank that can clog. If you clean all these out and you still don"t have adequate fuel flow, remove the carb and open it up. Sometimes the fuel bowl is full of fine sediments and it doesn"t allow the float to drop. You could also have dirt in the float valve. once you have the carb off, give it qa good cleaning and blow all the passages out with compressed air and make sure they are clear.

Here is the picture of the "secret" Filter Jerry talks about. It is secret because not many people know about it.

I would remove carb, disassemble and clean out all jets and fuel passageways, sounds like varnish or sediment is plugging up the jets. Good Luck, Jim.
