Awesome work! If you don't have a manual, get one now, 'cus sounds like your going to need it when you tear into the leaky seals. As far as your charging, you gotta figure out if your dealing with 6V or 12V. Looking at the battery top should tell you. A 6V battery has 4 caps, a 12V has 8 caps. If you have what looks like the original Delco-Remy generator,like a model 1100529, you have a 6V generator. Your battery should have a + and - stamped on it next to the posts. Might need to clean up the top to see them. Which one goes to the ground cable bolted to the backside of the dash? I agree with the other guys, probably just need to clean-up the brushes & commutator on the generator, an easy do-it-yourselfer job. 6V systems are more sensitive to corrosion than 12V systems, I recommend cleaning and shining all your wire connections, including the big ground to frame before doing anything else. Might also just be the regulator is stuck. Next time your engine is running, speed it up to working speed, take a wrench, and wack the regulator box a couple times to see if it kicks in. You will know if you have an AMP gauge. The gauge will go from ~0 to +4-10 depending on battery condition. My need to check the ground on your regulator too. If it is corrodes, it won't charge, one of the mounting bolts is also the ground to frame. The easiest way to check your generator output is to run your engine fairly fast (working speed), take a piece of wire and connect one end to the F (field)terminal on the generator, and the other end of the wire to ground. That forces your generator to full output, and bypasses the regulator. Measure the volts across the battery before you do that, then while you are doing that. If the volts don't go up, the generator ain't working right. Checking the volts across the two terminals on the generator don't work, that ain't the way it operates. The F terminal provides power to the field which controls output strength. The A terminal is your actual power output. If your regulator is not working, your generator will have no output. See the above test to bypass your regulator & check generator output. George
