I remember reading a post at one point about something that would give the TO20 a low range transmission, like a 4x4 truck has. This sort of thing would make my Ferg a much more usable machine, and I"d like to see if it would be possible to acquire whatever I"d need. Can some one educate me a bit on this?

I appears that there are more Shermans available for Fords than Fergs; If I've read correctly, the Ford would go in the Ferg, but because of the shape of the top plate, you'd loose the shift-starter, but otherwise it would work? Could one not replace the function of the shift-start with a solenoid and have a push button or key actuated starter? I know that is not standard, but...?

I have a Hupp in my TO-20. Keep in mind that most of the 2-speed conversions also cut the PTO speed in half, making it almost useless. I don"t know if Howard made a 2-speed for the TO-20, but that is one that maintains the PTO rpm.

In addition to those that Jerry listed, there was the Ferguson Epicyclic gearbox that also gave live PTO and Hydraulics. This was fitted between the Transmission and the Centre Axle Housing, it made the tractor about 5" longer. They were very expensive at the time and there are not many around but if you could get one of those it would be ideal....John

There were several auxilliry transmissin used on the TO"s: the Sherman, the Hupp, and the Howard. Do an archive search under those names and you"ll find a wealth of info. You can also do a google search and get a bunch of info.
