I'm sure its been asked before, but I can't seem to find it:
I have a TO-35, it needs a new battery and regulator, and the lights haven't worked in years. I would like to get this working right again and thinking about converting to a 12 Volt system. What do I need? I don't see a kit listed, And idea if this might be available someplace else? Thanks in advance.

Mike,

Another option is to locate a 12V generator for your tractor. I purchased a Delco 1100998 12V generator originally used on the 35 for my 30. Put new brushes, front bearing, and rear bushing in it along with a new voltage regulator and it has been great.

Hey Mike, I have a 12 volt alternator on my '55 TO-35. I really don't know if the tractor was originally 12 volt. When I bought it there was a non functioning Delco junkyard alternator on it. I got a universal one wire alternator from O'Reilly's and it works great. The bottom ear of the alternator mounts perfectly to the front mounting eye where the generator used to be. The top bracket bolts to one of the studs through the water pump housing, I have seen "universal" alternator top mount brackets at part stores which would work perfectly. The belt size may be different than the that used with a generator, so use a piece of twine to measure what size of a new belt you need. If you elect to go the route that I went, be aware of two things. First, there is no way that I am aware of to make your factory cable driven tach work with the Delco alternator. Second, with the one wire alternator, the regulator is built in and is not self-exciting. You must rev the engine a little, to about half throttle, to get the unit to start charging. After you do this, the alternator will charge at whatever rpm you are running. Hope this helps, send me a message if I could answer any questions for you.

Hi Mike,
There's a ton of info on this YT site on this topic. Try searching "12V conversion" or "alternator conversion" etc. Narrow to Ferguson & MF forums first, but Ford and others will yield results as well.
I don't think a kit is made for the TO-35- at least not when I converted mine.
Fabricating or modifying the bracket is the biggest part of the project. If memory serves, I flipped mine end-for-end, drilled holes and added a small piece of pipe for a spacer. You may also need to get a pulley to match your existing belt.
See the links below to get you started.
If you want to email me, I can go out and have a look at mine to refresh my memory.
