TO30 clutch release bearing carrier wear

Split my TO30 because of a whine when clutch pedal was pressed. Release bearing was in bad shape so it will be replaced. There is a lot of wear on the release bearing carrier where the forks contact it on the ears as you can see in the picture. Any reason I can't fill with weld and grind smooth? I don't see the carrier for sale new anywhere. Thanks.

There is nothing to prevent you filling the grooves by welding and then grinding it back to the original profile, this has been done many times in the past. If you get excessive wear like that look for someone driving with their foot on the Clutch Pedal all the time. Obviously if the tractor is used with a loader then it will happen anyway. When you rebuild that tractor you will need to reset the Engine governor, do you have the information on how to do that, email me if you need it....John

Thanks John, welding and grinding it is then. I have the service book so I should be ok on the governor settings, unless you have some other tricks and tips not covered in the book.

No I don't have anything to add to the Service manual, just follow it carefully, especially about the spring setting, if you do everything should be ok. If you do have problems, just email me...John

Other than it looks like a cast part, I don't know why you could weld the wear grooves full and grind smooth. I think you have to use a high nickel rod for cast parts. How do the parts that rub against the carrier look?

Well, the release fork and original carrier that was in the TO30 look good on the ears but the release bearing had seized and now there are grooves in the carrier where the bearing goes on. I had this other carrier from a parts tracter I got and it is very nice where the bearing goes but the ears are worn. I figureed it would be easier to fix the ears on this one than the bearing area on the other. All I have is a little MIG welder so if its cast I may need to find soneone who can do this.

Mine had wear grooves in it to, i plastered on some JB WELD and then sanded it smooth with emery cloth, seemed to do the trick.
