Many thanks to all who have helped me deal with the long, slow process of restoring my TO30, either by offering your advice or by listening to my rambling. I got the rebuilt engine hung back on it during the week and set it back down on four wheels for the first time since March. Mine was the Z129 engine with the Z134 oil pan (courtesy of the rebuilder) that I wrote about a couple of weeks ago. The Z134 pan fits and looks great! But the revenge gargoyle reared its ugly head—no drain plug! The plug from the original pan doesn’t fit (9/16” vs 5/8”). It is important to me to use that beefier pan if at all possible, so does any one know of a source for these drain plugs? I know the question has been asked (and pretty much ignored) in the past, but I’d really like some help, please. Thanks in advance!

Bill

Hi, gentlemen, and thank you all for your advice. I did the easiest thing first and went to the local Massey dealer. They had the plug in stock, so I guess it was much ado about nothing. The past posts I’d read indicated it was no longer available from MF, and YT and other Internet parts places didn’t list it either so I thought I was SOL. MF has been hit-and-miss on several items but they’re still worth a try, it seems. I’ll keep All-States Ag Parts and Carquest in mind for the future. As for Farmland, Jerry, I need to call Randy anyway. The big bolt with the starter jaw on the end of the crank was missing when I picked my engine up and the one they dug out of the bin for me was so bunged up it doesn’t fit right. And none of us noticed the 2” diameter spacer missing from behind it, so that’s one more show-stopper. But it’s all good, and no worries!

Thanks again,

Bill

let us know when you get it running. I had some of the same irritants( wrong gasket, almost the wrong pan( I caught that), wrong timing cover, etc.) you had when I got my engine but the folks at Farmhand made it good. They are not big on watching the details. They didn't even require that I send the TO-20 timing cover back but I did anyway. I didn't need an extra unuable part in my inventory.

Call Randy at Farmland and have him give you one. It should have come with the oil pan. When i got my engine, it had a TO-20 timing cover and they sent the correct one to me whe I requested it.

Will, I have had good success finding odd size drain plugs at Carquest. This large plug probably fits many heavy trucks and equipment. You can also try a heavy truck parts dealer.

Try a Massey Ferguson (AGCO) dealer. They should have it, maybe even have a used one if not a new one. If you can borrow one from them, you can have a machine shop make one.

Bill,Try All States AG Parts 1-877-530-4430. They were able to help me with a TO30 oil pan plug that got missing during my rebuild. Good Luck
