Is the only difference the engine? My plate is so scratched and painted I can't read it. Where is the best place to look for info on all these differences in Fergys? Thanks to all who help us amateurs!

Apart from the early continental z120 engine.
The TEA was fitted with the 80 mm bore engine see no. behind carburettor, and ran on Petrol. The TED used the same engine but ran on petrol and the cheaper paraffin (TVO) but had an 85 mm engine so it could produce the same power despite having a lower compression ratio than the 80 mm, this was necessary to allow it to run on TVO due to the fuels low octane rating. There is also a TEH20 that ran on lamp oil but is very scarce. The TEF 20 is a diesel model.

The best source of information you will ever find on all Ferguson tractors is "The Ferguson Tractor Story" by Stuart Gibbard, published in U.K. by Old Pond Publishing. (www.oldpond.com) ISBN 1 903366 08 9. This book is a must for all interested in Ferguson tractors both TE and TO. It's the best �19.95 I ever spent. Although published in UK it should be available in U.S.

TE's and TE-A's are booth English made. There may be some small difference's in body but the main thing is the engine. TE's had continental engines.
On the motor you may have a Z120 number, that is a TE. Also they have an internal oil pump and filter. If you see a filter housing externally on the right side looking at the tractor from the front
you have a TE-A with a Standard Motor company engine. The housing my be vertical or at a 45 degree angle they made both kind.
That is the easiest way to find the difference. You can't miss that. If you are still unsure I can scan and e-mail you detailed pictures of a TE-A Standard motor.
Hope this helps, I know it can be frustrating because of the modifications made to some over the years. Sometimes it seems no two are the same.
