Old ( TO ) tractor

A friend recently bought an old Ferguson , and the plate by the steering wheel is stamped T- 17158 What year was this one made and the H P . The same friend is looking for a decent set of Rims for a Ford 861 . The rims looked as if they are adjustable. They are really rusted,so he wants a decent pair. Thanks . To do a quick TE/TO check look at these three items.

1) Steering column. If one piece with the plate where the shift lever goes through (TE) if two seperate pieces (TO)

2) Hood latchs: If two "T" handle, one on either side, then (TE) if single lift lever on left side (TO).

3) look at fuel filter location. If Between 3rd and 4th sparkplug (TE) if aft of engine i.e. behind 4th sparkplug then (TO)

Or just check the name plate again for the letter "O" or "E".

As far as i can remember they ONLY letter on the plate if front of the steering wheel was a letter T -then, 5 numbers. I will be at the friends house this Wednesday and i will take a photo of the tractor for you , And check the plate again . Thanks for your Info. Clyde , in Wooster

It could be a TO made in Detroit or a TE made in Coventry, they both had the same engines 23.9hp Z120 Continental Motors. If it was a TE it was made in 1947 if it is a TO it was made in 1950. I think that it is possibly a TE and if someone has told you the number and it began with TE you could have misheard and thought they said just T. If you need to check further, the date of the centre axle casting is cast into the TE just forward of the Round inspection cover on a TO the date is cast into the Trumpet axle housings to which the Fenders are attached....John

New adjustable rims are available from most tractor tire dealers. They are very pricey, last I checked they were over $300 each, about three times the price of regular rims same size.

May be a 1950 TO20 but the "T" throws me. Should be an "O" or an "E" after the T??? If it is a TO20, it has a Continental Z120 engine, 81 mm x 95 mm, 23.9 HP.
