Okay, Let's give this a try..... This picture is of the oil pan I wrote about in my post below (Other lives of a Z129?). If anybody has an idea about what piece of equipment this was used on originally I'd like to hear it.

Bill

Hey Greenbank, thats a serious project you have going there. I'm wondering, how are you going to support and move the two halves of the tractor when you split it to replace the clutch components? I'll need to replace the clutch on my '55 model sometime. A couple of times this year, the clutch slipped when I was mowing in some super heavy grass. Otherwise it does great, releases and engages easily with no chatter. I'm just trying to be as prepared as I can be when the time comes to replace it.

Fortunately, I'm not splitting it for this go-round; but if I was I would crib up just behind the flange between the engine and tranny and then use an engine hoist to remove the engine. I would put the rear of the tractor where I wanted to leave it for the duration, and pull pieces from it there. (I'd probably use the hoist to lower it closer to the ground just to allow the use of a floor jack to help maneuver assemblies around...it resting on a few 4x4s close to the ground is safer than it resting on a stack of 4x4s up in the air.)

Take an additional look at the tractor photo showing the oil pan, it has a two speed tranny which in my mind set makes this tractor a TO35.

Dan S (NY) & greenbank,

Thank you both very much for your photos that prove without at doubt where my pan came from. The way the pan on a Z134 is bolted to the tractor at the front and rear makes it an actual structural component of the tractor. That added strength has got to be good for the block, and may go a long way toward explaining why I don’t seem to see as many posts about cracked Z134 blocks.

Thanks again, gentlemen!

Bill

Hi guys,

Well, I’d say the mystery is pretty much solved. But does the casting number on the bottom of your oil pan(s) read “Z129B”? It doesn’t break my heart to have a Z134 oil pan, as long as it fits. If it doesn’t, I'll have the first part for my next tractor!

Thanks, everyone,

Bill

Yep, as I recall, Z129B-600, but I'd have to check.

It is a pan for a Z134. The front holes you were curious about are for two long bolts which go through the front axle extension, whatever the official name of that is. You can just see where that happens in the photo above.

That pan appears to me to be from a Z134 Continental engine.

That looks like the oil pan on my TO35, Z134 engine. I can go out and confirm that.
