TO-20 Seized Yoke Update

After several days of using normal procedures to get the yoke to adjust I gave up and cut the shaft in half between the coils of the control spring using a hacksaw. This allowed me to put the yoke in a vice and use heat, I was finally able to remove it. Surprisingly after cleaning the threads with a wire brush they were in very good shape. I welded the 2 halves back together, used anti-seize grease on the threads and can correctly adjust the yoke by turning it with my fingers

The Yoke and the Plunger Rod were sold as matched pairs during the time the tractor was in production as there is a definite need to get the adjustment right and cutting the Plunger Rod and then welding it up again is not a sure way of getting this adjustment right. It does have to have some end float (.020") which roughly translates to being just able to turn the Draft Spring (with your fingers)when you have a 400lbs plow on the 3 point linkage, this weight is far enough back (because a plow is long)to give enough pull on the plunger rod via the Top Link, to then be able to check it.(a 400lb tiller doesn't have as much pull on the top link as it is closer to the Tractor) It needs this small amount of free play to be able to move the Control Valve when doing light work, if it is too tight it will need more pressure down the Top Link to operate the Control Valve and if it is too slack it will need less pressure. Incorrect setting will result in the implement trying to go either too deep or too shallow and the weight transfer from the implement to the Tractor will not be as good as it should be unless the implement keeps a more or less constant depth, so the rear wheels will be slipping more than they should do, this wears tyres and wastes fuel.
