I posted awhile back about what to do before I attempt to start a tractor that has been sitting for ALONG time. Over 25 years.
I did not mention, however, that this was my aunts tractor and implements. She informed me that my Grandpa and Dad rebuilt the engine back in '88 or '89. At that point, it wasn't needed much anymore. THerefore, she was put in back of barn.
I soaked the cylinders for two days, changed the oil, soaked and blew out carb.(no rebuild kit) and filed and re-set point gap. With the crank (which was mounted rear axle) I got her to finally turn over.
I replaced battery cables with 0guage on both and ran ground down to started mounting bolt.
Hung my trusty aux. gas tank from battery tray and let her flow. On the 8th crank she fired.
Runs like a top. Even got he carb setting pretty decent.
When I took for a ride, I couldn't help to think that my Grandpa and Dad both were sitting on the same seat, grinning, and listening to the same purr as I was. They are both gone, but I think Dad would be proud. I know I sure am of him. And I sure do miss him.
Makes this little 30 that much more special to me. Thanks for listening. Mark

So glad to hear that it fired up with little effort. It seems that the tractor brand we grow up with will be a part of us the rest of our lives, huh? When I was 4 years old, my dad brought home a used TO-30, and even as a li'l feller, I thought "what a cool little tractor". Needless to say, I am very pleased with my TO-35.

Thank you. That story reminded me of one of my fondest memories of my Dad who has been gone almost 25 yrs. He owned his own auto and tractor repair business in a small rural town in Wisconsin. One of his customers had a barn fire and a TO 30 had burned down with it. He aquired the tractor and we spent almost 2 yrs restoring it. I was 12-13 yrs old. I learned a little about tractors and alot about my Dad. Miss him.

Great story Mark. Wish my relatives would have had tractors. I got some nice hunting guns though. Got the tractor on my own. Post pictures here soon.

I've got a Ferguson F-40 that was my dads. It's in sad shape now, but it'll be getting dragged into the shop before bad weather. The plan is to spend a year or more restoring it. It's the first tractor I ever drove by myself. Dad spent countless hours on it, and the last time I ever saw my grampa alive he was on it discing his garden. People keep telling me "It's just a tractor". No, it's quite a bit more than that.

Glad yours started up. I bet that first sign of life was a thrill. I know what you mean about missin' 'em.
