Just purchased a 6 blade fan for my TO 30 to replace the original 4 bladed fan.The 6 bladed fan was supplied by my local M/F dealer for only $20.00.I'm not sure,however,how to place it.The blades are slightly cupped.Do I face the cupped blades forward or backwards? Thanks.

It would seem to me..... .sence you bought it from a dealer..... ... Just where would you go to find out how it should be mounted...?????

In the Service Manual it shows the fan fitted with the steel frame towards the Radiator and the blades towards the Engine.

I just replaced the 4 blade fan on my TO-20 with a six blade fan and I turned the cupped side of the blades to the rear of the tractor. I looked at the salvage yards for weeks for a used blade before going to the dealer. Like you I was able to buy one there for less than $20.00. Sometimes they will suprise you.

First of all the fan is going to blow the air in the same direction regardless of which way you mount it (otherwise we could turn our RH nuts over to make LH nuts)...

Generally a fan starts with a lesser pitch on the leading edge and increases toward the trailing edge... Looking from above on a fan blade with air flow in the direction down the page (ignore periods that are for character spacing)

If you can't work out which way to fit the fan, fit it, run the engine and hold a sheet of paper a couple of inches away from the front of the radiator..... the rest is obvious I guess!

Can the blades even be mounted it either direction? Generally speaking, the cupped (convex) face should be rearward as it is the "pressure " side of the blade. The concave side is the "suction" side of the blade. Another way of looking at this is if the blade rotates CCW, and you are looking down at a cross section,it should look like this: <- ), where <-indicates the direction the blade is moving.. If the blade is rotating clockwise and your are looking down on the cross section, it should look like this: ( ->.

I'm sorry I can't make it much clearer without some illustrations that I don't know how to post on hear.I hope this helps you.
