Just brought home a to30 that has sat in a barn for well over 20 years.
brakes and p.t.o seals are shot.
Engine oil looks good, and gas tank is varnished over BIG TIME>
I will soak carb, and install aux. gas tank (for now)
Just looking for opinions on a first time start up after setting ALONG time.
Obviously I will change motor oil--would it be alright to put some cheap brand in just to get her started and let it run a while and change again? I looked into cylinders and they look fine, however, should I put some oil, or spray something into them before starting?
Just looking for ideas from the experts on first time start up. Many thanks, Mark

Might not hurt to shoot some MM oil in the cylinders and let'em sit a day or two, then turn the engine. Yes, I think using cheap oil to get'er started, run it a while, then change the oil is a good idea. Other than that, & cleaning-up the fuel system, I wouldn't do a thing expect try to start'er up! If she don't start, then you can look into the ignition.

There's varnish IN the gas line, the sediment filter, and the carburetor inlet screen. Clean all of those while you clean the tank and the carburetor, else you'll be asking why it only runs for a few minutes at a time.

Little oil in the cylinders and turn over - slowly - by hand first.
