The problem you have with the hydraulics dropping when you press the clutch is that you have a leak somewhere and because the Pump isn't running when you press the pedal there is nothing to make up the loss of oil escaping through the leak. You need to check where the oil is escaping, if you remove the left round side cover and look inside for oil swirling in the bottom or running from the top or maybe in the front right corner, this will tell you where the leak is and then you can repair it. If you need more info about this email me at:- fergusontractors(at)tiscali.co.uk and tell me what you have found and I will send the info you need plus anything else I think that it may be. DON'T PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE OIL WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING.....John

There's nothing wrong with your tractor. Neither the TO-20 or the TO-30 have live hydraulics. The hydraulic pump is driven off the transmission so when you step on the clutch, there is no power supplied to the pump or the pto. The pto shaft is also the pump drive so when you shut off the pto you shut off the pump.
You need to get an Operators Manual for your machine and if you do your own maintenance or want to know more about how your Ferguson ( systems descriptions, etc) get the Ferguson Shop Manual and the Ferguson Parts Manual also. Stay away from the IT manuals as they are not for people new to tractors.

A normal TO 3 point lift should hold a 2 bottom plow (~450 pounds) off the ground for about 15 minutes once you disengage the PTO, or stomp the clutch. Even ~5 minutes or so is typically fine for most TO service. If your talking about the lift dropping within a minute or two, you may have a leaky hydro cylinder or relief valve that is worth further investigation.
