TO35 shifter forks out of position

I have had this problem several times. The transmission sticks in a gear. I have been able to remove shifter fork and reposition shifter to fix.
This time i need to see in the case to position the gears. How do you remove the shifter and spring all the way with out damaging. Will the spring pull out or is there a keeper ring that needs to be removed first

This is a fairly common "defect" in the TO 35. There is a plug on the left side of the transmission shifter on top of the transmission. Take it out and use a long screwdriver to slide the fork into position. I've had this problem with all three 35s that I've had the pleasure to run.

You have to remove the steering box to get at it.
The usual way to align the gears in the box is through the oil filler. If as you say it has done this quite a few times then it is about time the selectors were changed or rebuilt.
