My apologies as I know this has been covered before. I did a search but couldn't find past discussions. I bought a TO30 at an auction. The 3 point goes up but will not come down. What should I look for? Thanks!
Brent

Usual thing to cause that is the Control Valve has stuck. Remove the left round side cover and you will see the control fork hanging down, with the engine running and the PTO in drive, move the control fork gently back-wards and then forwards. You can do this with a long screwdriver so you don't get your hands inside. DO NOT PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE OIL WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING.
if that fails to cure it, email me at:-

and tell me what you have done and I will send you the information that you need to get it going.John

Can I do this on a level surface or do I need to park it on a side of a hill to prevent oil from coming out of the side hole when I take the cover off?

Do it on a level surface, if the oil is to the correct level the oil should only just come out through the bottom screw hole, any that comes out of the actual port is too much.

Either the piston is binding in the cylinder, or the control valve is binding. The control lever/linkage may also be out of adjustment. A long shot;are the bolts on the lift arms too tight?
