Hello guys,
Have not posted for some time, but do keep reading the news. Question, I have some problem with the charging of the original 6 volt system on my 52 TO30. Last night I put the charger on and left it on trickle all night. Today it will turn over fine but no spark. first noticed there was no drop on the amp meter when the key is turned on. Checked and no votage to the coil. Battery ok, went to the scematic and checked voltage to the starter switch, ok, then to the ampmeter, ok, then to the batt terminal on the regulator, ok, but no voltage from the L terminal on the regulator to the ignition switch. Could I have screwed up the new tractor supply regulator with the charger last night. I am right on the verge of changing over to 12 volts alternator system. This 6 volt regulator is driving me nuts. Any thought would be appreciated. Thanks.

After looking at the wiring diagram, the only thing I could conclude is that there is a problem with the regulator since you have battery voltage everywhere along the circuit except at the L terminal. If you just want to run the tractor, I would just hook the key switch up to the B terminal.

Thanks Jerry,

Good idea. Will do that this morning to be able to move it around again. Do you know, or anyone else, if the 12volt alternator kits they sell on this site is a good product. I bought one of the new ignition switches from here and was not happy with the quality and fit.

I really don't know about where you can find a good kit. My TO-30 had an alternator on it when I bought it and the guy that converted it made a bracket to hold the alternator but did a p--- poor job for the adjustment bracket. I made my own and it works fine. I need to get a 5/8" belt pulley for the alternator because the pulley I have is for an automotive belt and doesn't match the water pump pulley.

I think Genesse Electronics (www.geneseeproducts.com) sells a kit and I haven't heard anything negative about them. If your handy with welding, you can probably make a bracket to mount an alternator and you can get a Delco alternator(10 Si) cheap from a wrecking yard. The rest is simple wiring.
