I"m new to the forum (actually returning after about 10 yrs.) Recently purchased a TO-30 which is getting a complete resto. It came with Bombardier tracks (I need a photo on how the pony wheels look when attached to the rear axles - also need about 10 cross links), and came with several options, including a Cyclone Air Cleaner (anyone have the Air Cleaner Company decal? - also need the bail and cup and Air Cleaner Company jar). Has a Sherman Hi-Lo (I also need the decal for the dash showing all of the speeds - I can barely read mine). I checked the archives and saw some posts a year or so ago about ignition switch plates - any source for those yet? If not, I"ve had some limited experience in etching aluminum and could possibly make some if I had a good crisp actual-size photocopy of an original. I"ve had three Fergies before, (TEA-20 and two 30s) two died and one was given to a friend to restore. This latest one is very original. In fact, I"m discovering that most parts have never been removed since the factory! The Cyclone Air Cleaner is obviously an after-market add-on, as the rubber dash piece was roughly cut to fit inside the Cyclone top. However, I could tell that the air cleaner had never been removed from the machine since it was installed. I drilled out the spot welds to get to the cyclone chamber. It was almost totally plugged with dirt and the familiar oil-crud. (Just how did all that oil get all the way back up the air cleaner anyway?) And then there was the stuff that came out when I washed the wire-mesh in diesel! And then there was the stuff in the bottom of the oil cup - while it has greasy oil on top, it was bone dry at the very bottom. Anyway, the previous owner could not keep it running in spite of a new carb kit, new ignition switch, new regulator, etc. No wonder, it was being "choked" all of the time. (BTW, I recently purchased two CASES (SC and VAC) and a 9N that had the same "rough running" problems. Owners couldn"t figure out the reason and just wanted them gone! All of them had an oil-bath air cleaner that was almost completely plugged up top. On these I could remove the wire mesh for a total cleaning. (Found wasp nests, various bug remnants, and even an old mouse house.) I"ve found this to be the problem on several old tractors where the owners thought the problem was fuel delivery or electrical. The CASE SC owner"s manual states that for every gallon of gasoline burned (single barrel updraft carb), the engine "breathes" in 9,000 gallons of air! They gotta BREATHE! BTW, the Cyclone Air Cleaner was painted with a different shade of grey than the oil-bath portion - slightly lighter - more like the Ford grey. Probably because the same company was making them for Fords at the same time. Fortunately, the previous owners liked to use the grease gun, and all ball joints, steering busings, lift-arm adjuster, etc., were totally covered in a ball of gunk, but were in perfect shape. I do need to replace the dust boots on the drag links though. (Is the dust boot "assortment" I see listed the one I need?) Sorry for the ramble - and all of the questions - but I"m having a blast restoring the Fergy, the 9N, and the SC all at the same time! I just gotta make sure I keep that Flambeau Red away from the Fergy grey. :) And, the poor old VAC will just have to wait!Bob
