Looking at a TO-35 that says it it a Massey Ferguson. Thought these were Harry Ferguson. Anyone know for sure ?

I thaught I was informed on the Ferguson Tractor Co. I can see that I have alot of winter reading to do. I have this question for you guys the A that is cast in the side of the engine block I have been TOLD by a man at Fawn grove old time days ( this is a small antique tractor show in Fawn Grove PA.) that the A ment aberdeen. This man said these were cast and machined in Aberdeen Maryland is this true? Also please give me the titles and authors for Ferguson reading, research. thanks, John

The Z series Continental engine blocks were cast by the Campbell, Wyant, and Cannon foundry in Muskegon, Michigan. If you look on the left side of the block you will see the initials CWC, the casting dates are in the form of letter/number/number. For example if the date code is F-5-4 it means the block was cast on June 5, 1954. The letter "I" was not used as it looks too much like "L". The engines were assembled in Muskegon also.

TO-35s had two and possibly three different company names on the tractor SN tags. Even though Massey-Harris bought Ferguson in 1953 the early TO-35s had SN plates that said Harry Ferguson, Inc. At some point the company name on the SN tags changed to Massey-Harris-Ferguson, Inc. In the later stages in late 1958 they may have changed to Massey Ferguson on the tag. Regardless if the tag said TO-35 it was considered a Ferguson clear into early 1960 when they started badging them as MF 35s. Both TO-35s and MF 35s were built in 1960.

Ron, Harry Ferguson Ltd. never made a 35 model, that was introduced after he sold the Company to Massey-Harris in 1953 Ferguson only made 20's and 30's. The first TO35's were made in 1954.
Are you getting confused because the colour of the first ones was partly Grey?....John

Mr. John, Thanks ! I just assumed Harry Ferguson started making them and they would have the Harry Ferguson tag. Appreciate you knowledge, that's why your making the big bucks !

IF ONLY I WAS Ron.....lol.
Actually Harry Ferguson left the company over a row about this tractor, he didn't want it, he wanted the TE60 that was under trials in the UK, but he was off work ill for a while and when he came back MH had made the decision to manufacture the TO35 instead...so more or less at that point HF left the company which was a great pity, my own view is that he should never have sold the company in the first place....but then again who am I?.....John

Where does it say Massey Ferguson? I would think that if it had a TO serial number stamped on the plate on the dash it would have to be a Ferguson

Jerry, the tag says Massey-Ferguson, Racine, WI. serial # 20007, Model TO-35. ??? With the Z134 Continental.

This tractor was made in 1959 which is two years after they changed to Red and Grey and called Massey-Ferguson.
