TO-20 JD 24T Baler?

Can a TO-20/30 pull a pto-driven JD 24T baler? I pull it w/my JD B, which has about 18.5 HP at the pto, but can't find any reference on pto for TO-20 or 30. My TO-20 actually has a TO-30 engine, if that gives any additional power. Thanks, Dan

The engine power on a TO30 is 30.27hp you always lose some power in the Transmission so by the time it gets to the PTO shaft it will possibly be about 26hp. We used to have the Massey-Harris 701 baler in the UK which is quite heavy but it was engine driven and that was its limit as regards traction. PTO power, you would possibly be struggling but if you could feed it slowly and then it MAY cope, depends on your crop density. You would need an Over-running clutch on the PTO or it could drive the tractor when you press the clutch pedal. I have just looked at a picture of one and it will be able to pull it ok its just driving it under load, don't use it on hills or soft ground as the tractor is definitely not big enough. The PTO power they recommend for this baler is around 40hp so that it will be capable of anything. So really the tractor is not big enough.

TO20 Z120 engine 23.9 HP.

TO30 Z129 engine 30.27 HP.

Thanks, Bob. When rebuilding my engine, we found my TO-20 has a TO-30 block. Would that mean the 30.27 horse power of TO30 Z129 engine?

I've never seen a continental engine Ferguson tractor - there are none in Australia - so I'm probably the wrong one to ask. (Only the Standard Motor Company TEA20 series were imported to Australia.)

However, if you have the TO30 carby on the the Z129 engine in your TO20 tractor, my guess you should be getting 30 HP at the PTO.
