Ferguson TO20 will not start without jumping. It will run for hours after jumping. If I shut it off it will not restart. I have had the battery checked and it is good. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I should check next?

Tucker, I don"t mean any disrespect, but you didn"t tell us much. That"s why all the good people who are trying to answer your question are all over the lot. For example, are we to assume the tractor doesn"t turn over, or that it turns over (perhaps slowly) and just doesn"t start? Is this a six volt or 12 volt, and how did you jump start it? Did you pull it or drift it off a hill? or did you start it from another battery? If it is six volts, there is a procedure to jump start it with a 12 volt battery and it would be important you used that procedure, or you might be damaging your ignition. If you started it from another battery and used the correct procedure, that would mean you also used your starter, and thus the starter isn"t the problem. Much of the time these type of issues come down to a bad connection, often the battery ground wire, which one of the posts mentioned. Next time, please tell us more details about the problem if you want to-the-point suggestions.

I Have A TO20 and when I bought it it done the same thing, so I took the starter apart and found that not all the brushes were making contact bought all new brushes and made sure they made contact and moved freely, easy to do and inexspensive, has whrirled over good ever since.

From your description, it would seem your starter works with the external battery which would also say all the connections are adequate. If your electrical system will not turn over the engine sufficiently to start it, then I think the battery is a problem in spite of "checking good". If the battery is not checked under load, it can appear to be ok. Your starter puts a heavy load on the batt and that would make it suspicious since the jumper works.

Since you are Jump starting the tractor I assume you are using the shift lever and the switch on the bell housing if it is like my TO 30. If so it appears your starter is operating with the booster battery. Where is the ground from the tractor battery connected? If its fastened to the back of the dash clean both ends of the cable and move the connection on the dash and fasten it to the engine block for a better ground. Also clean the other cables all the way to the starter. Assuming you are using the 6V system be sure you are using the large 6V cables not the smaller 12V that are normally handed out.
All the other suggestions are excellent and need to be checked, but I have been driven nuts by bad grounds and connections that were not super clean. Just a thought, sorry for the length.

I'm assuming that the starter itself doesn't turn when you attempt a start. (If the starter turns and just makes a whirring sound, your ring gear could be loose or the starter drive is shot.)
Your starter switch could be faulty or need adjustment. As Centaur said, you also may have a faulty starter. If you have a voltmeter, clip the black lead to a good ground and the red lead to the starter lug. Engage the starter my pushing on the shift lever. If you have battery voltage when you engage the shift lever, then the problem is the starter. Take the starter off and either take it to an auto electric shop or clean the commutator and replace the brushes.

If you do not have battery voltage when you press the shift lever forward to the start position, try adjusting the switch position by loosening the four nuts and moving the switch around. I think moving it aft will make sure that you get a positive engagement. If that doen't work, replace the switch. It costs ~$12+ shipping.

Why not take the starter off and clean it and lube the bushings as any starter can be improved after it has not had any attention for a while. You should post the info on the tag if it still intact.New bushings and brushes are easy to install if worn.Check the ground strap to get a good connection. The stationary side of the points are also a ground. The contacts themselves. After all,When you are tuning all you are doing is removing resistance to the flow of amps, fuel or air.I think that last sentence is all inclusive.
