Jim, 3.6 Ohms, yes probably okay, and surely sufficient to get you going. I don't recall ever checking ohms on the battery cable. More importantly, you want to install the biggest, fattest battery cables you can get, not those 4/0, or whatever skinny 12V cables, but the 2/0 or fatter, cables like they use on trucks and diesel engine leads to the starter. That will maximixe your amp transfer on your 6V system while cranking your cold engine on those frosty January morning. Also make sure your ground lug is clean & shiny. Your solenoid is basically just a remote controlled switch. You can check continuity by disconnecting both the battery cables, activate the solenoid with the key, and measure ohms across the solenoid, should be low, a few ohms. Also check ohms across the solenoid with the key switch off, you should get no continuity across the solenoid, insuring no slow battery drain. It is somewhat common for old worn-out solenoids to "leak" some voltage, even when off, which causes slow battery drain. If you are interested, you can re-convert your TO-30 back to the original wiring scheme which has no solenoid. You should have the remnants of the orginal gear shifter actuated start switch on top of your tranny housing. It is probably faulty, which is why the prev. owner installed a solenoid. For a few bucks more than a new solenoid, you can buy a new original equipment style start switch on your tranny. Totally your call, I have a solenoid on my TO-20 also and have no plans to convert it back to the original equipment starter switch.
