TSNY, Your diagram looks OK, should work fine.
A) Bypass ignition switch (as others have suggested, Batt +ve to Coil +ve). If you originally did not have a warning light in the alternator excite wire, damage may have occured to the switch contacts.

B) Not all 12 volt coils are equal, which one do you have? IC14** ?

C) Points & condenser

BTW: You could move the wire, coming from the Warning Light, to the ACC post on your ignition switch. This will reduce the current draw on your ignition switch contacts.

Hope This Helps,

Just a thought here. I had similar problem with my 8N. After replacing all electrical "tune-up" parts with new, the tractor just ran weak and would eventually just quit. I ran across an article on a ford site regarding "quality" of condensors. Said something about "cheap" foriegn made one not performing properly (purchased mine at a discount auto store)and to use condensors made by NAPA Echlin or Standard ignition Blue Streak or equivelent. I replaced condensor and the tractor has worked great ever since. Go figure. Don't know if it will help but sounds like you're getting desperate. Good luck! Steve

If it is charging it is wired correctly, the charging has nothing to do with the ignition side other than charging the battery so that there is power for the ignition, so the "fault" would appear to be ignition. You need to check all the wiring and all the connections on the ignition they should be clean and shiny and tight. Are you sure the coil is wired correctly as we get this when someone has reversed the leads, try it to make sure, maybe it is wired wrongly. The spark needs to be Fat and blue, as Jerry keeps telling everyone, if he had a dollar for every time he has had to say that he would be a wealthy man, but it is correct and unless it is, you are wasting your time, no shortcuts here I'm afraid. Have you got a 12 volt coil on there, if you have you do not need the ballast resistor in the circuit feeding the Coil you only use them to drop the voltage when you are using a 6volt coil on a 12 volt system....John

Thanks for all the responses.I just went and picked up a new alternator.I will install it and check all the connections and see what I get.If still no good,I'll put in another set of points and condensor.

Your diagram looks GOOD to me. What isn't working as it should?

Hi.It runs but has no power.I pulled the wire off the coil and grounded it and the spark seems weak. The 12 volt coil, plug wires, plugs and cap and points/condensor are new.

Don't know what your problem is, but the ignition spark at the coil is generated at the opening of the points (not the closing) so after you ground the wire then observe your spark when you OPEN it.... while this test is useful as a coil check, there are other components that you are not testing with this method.... points, condensor, cap, rotor, plug wires, spark plugs... I'd remove the plugs and crank it to have a look...

Jerry/MT, from time to time has provided frequent step by step advice about fixing spark problems... Try a search in former posts.. Jim
