In my never ending quest to get the right tires on the right tractor I had the opportunity to take a picture tonight showing the difference between 3 common size tires found on the Ford N�s and Fergusons (here in the US).

In the photo are a 11.2-28, a 12.4-28, and a 13.6-28. As you can see the overall diameter of the tire grows as the does the width. This is due to something called aspect ratio. Bias ply tires have an aspect ratio of around 100% meaning they are as tall as they are wide. So when the tire grows in width they also get taller.

In automobile tires a common size is 235/65 r 15. This tire would have an aspect ratio of 65% tall compared to width hence this is a lower profile tire. (shorter sidewalls).

You can calculate the height of a tire so if a 11.2x28 has an aspect ratio of 100% then it would be 28 inches (rim) plus 11.2 inches plus 11.2 inches (top and bottom of tire) for an approx diameter of 50.4�. There is variation between mfg�s and with bias ply tires the overall dia is also affected by the width of the rim. The wider the rim the smaller dia the tire. The 13.6's were installed on my TO 35 dlx tonight and the 12.4 28s are headed for a 9n I'm getting ready to sell.

Hi John (TR), I recently purchased a To35 Deluxe. It needs a rear tire, one has already been replaced by the previous owner. size is 12.4 x 28 and the tread on the newer tire looks alot like the one in your picture. I believe the name on the tire is Lassa. What brand are yours and where did you get them? Thanks, Steve.

The 13.6 28 is a Goodyear. I also has an Astrostar that is almost a carbon copy. The 12.4 and 11.2 are both Firestone

Thanks for posting - good info. I ordered a pair of new Firestone 11.2-28 for my TEA2085 resto. They are terrible quality. I will be putting back on the older Firestone 12.4-28's, which are considerably better.
