Teaing the engine on my to30 down I found that the crakshaft was broken into. What are some of the causes that makes a crankshaft break? When the crank broke the tractor was not under a heavy load and the oil was to the full mark. I now need a new crank. If anyone knowa where I can find one at a halfway decent price please let me know. I know it wont be cheap. Thanks guys.

This is the first broken crank I have ever heard-of on this forum. Check your bearing shells real good, make sure they are not galled, the oil journals are clear, and check clearance with plastiguage strips when you install your new crank.

Pure speculation as to your cause, but my guess is that you would find evidence of fatigue cracking. Fifty years (at 100 hours per year) of a somewhat dynamically unbalanced (no counter weights by design) crankshaft rotating at 1500 rpm is 450 million cycles. That coupled with a defect like a nick or occlusion in the wrong place could do what you observed. Like Gregg said, though, this seems very rare for a Ferguson; these are not highly stressed engines.

Occasionally you will find a Z129 crankshaft on Ebay. There are new cranks available. Jim

Detonation:which is Bought on by overadvanced timing, lean mixture, overheating, abuse such as severe lugging.just a few causes, but a broken crank is NOT common.

Sparex list a replacement crank shaft for the TO20 Z120 engine, original part number 1750280M1, Sparex Part Number S.42843, so guess they may also sell crankshafts for the TO30 but can't see it on their web site.
