I have a TO-20 I have started working on that is getting antifreeze around the spark plugs somehow. Nothing in the oil and no oil in the water, but there is always a little coolant around the spark plug area after sitting a while. What is going on here, cracked head? This is a strange problem to me! Thanks

My to-20 is doing the same thing.I replaced the head gasket and still have leak.When it warms up the leak stops.I was told that the head cracks at sparkplugs sometimes.

Tex, if you have coolant collecting around the outside of your plugs, it is nearly surely leaking out past the head at your head gasket, running down and settling around the plug recesses. Sounds like you probably need a new head gasket.

Tex, you can rebuild if you want, but head gaskets in themselves are by no means a cause for a rebuild. Pull the gas tank, valve cover, head bolts, and pull the head, with valve train in place. clean-up your head, lay a good flat ruler across the bottom to make sure it is not warped. Clean up the top of the block real good by scraping it down, then buff it up with a nylon scrub pad. Use the head gasket goop of your choice... I like spray-on copper coat. line-up & install the new gasket, head, bolt down properly. That whole job will take you maybe 4-5 hours. I recommend just getting new nuts/bolts for the head to make it easier to torque down. Your looking at maybe $30- $40. Make sure you follow the manual on the torque and adjusting your valve clearance (you only need to do the cold valve gap). Run your TO up to running temp., let it cool all the way down to room temp., the re-torque your head, recheck your valve clearance.
