TO-20 12V Conversion

I recently converted my TO-20 to 12V. The ballast resistor I put in (1.2 ohm) doesn't drop the voltage down very much. Does anyone know what ballast resistor to use? After the conversion it started to miss under load. I don't know if its just conincidental or if it has to do with the conversion. Thanks for the help.

after switching mine to 12volt i have to have brushes put in my starter about once a year any help

JIm,
I think this is the resistor from NAPA.
Its a Chrysler part and I think this is the part # NAPA #ICR13 Good luck,

That is the part number they gave me. I put it in and it seems to work fine. Had to replace the points, think I might have burned them using the other ballast resistor. Thanks for the help.

Jim,
Go to an auto parts store and get the ballast resistor for a pre-76 Dodge. It'll do just fine.As for the miss under load, sounds like the high speed needle in your carburetor needs opening up a tweak. Get the tractor under a load and keep opening up about 1/8 turn at a time until it runs well with the load.
