Tea 20 85?

Hi Guys, have what I belive to be a 20 85 but cannot find a s/n plate on the dash OR any place where it was (no rivit holes) engine # is S112863E.
Just tore apart rear axle due to leaking oil seals (no brakes....help!) and found that it seems to have an inner oil seal in a heavy metal housing that is a force fit into the hub, there is no area in the axle housing to retain it, just a rough casting, Im wondering if I have a "mix n match" here? A TO30 shaft in a tea tractor? It hard to tell because I have never had one apart before. Any help in identifying what I have would be apreciated.
I probably have to replace shaft anyway as it has all shims removed and still excessive end float, the inner end of the shaft is beat up badly (presumably from wacking the other axle. Just need to know what will and will not work on this tractor.

Your tractor is one of the early 12v according to that engine number and they started at 200,001 in mid 1951. It will have the early axle so there will only be one oil seal, that heavy metal seal is a "Sure Seal" if that is leaking is it work? or is the oil level in the transmission too high. check the dipstick or remove the bottom setscrew out of one of the round side plates and the oil should JUST barely run out when it is correct.
TO series axle shafts don't interchange with the TE series tractors. If the axle-shaft is damaged so much you will need to find a 16 spline type, the later one has 19 splines. If you email me at:-

Hi Don:
I could send you the exploded diagram and parts listing for the rear axel if you provide an email address. John (UK) can provide instructions for replacing the bearing and seal and setting the shims. You could also use sure seals which do not require replacing the collar and bearing if it is OK. All parts should be available through your MF dealer.

Thanks John, I have a manual of sorts with pics, it looks like what was confusing me was that "shure seals" of some type had been previously fitted (obviously they did not show on the pics). It now appears that I have one TO axle and one TE, or the end of the one axle is totaly destroyed as it has no "button". I am at this point ASSUMING I have a TE and that "button" axles are required for that model. Looks like a shopping trip, thanks for your reply. Don
