Pto driven chipper

Anyone use a pto driven chipper on their Ferguson. The models available specify a 540rpm pto or 2000rpm pto. Of course, the pto speed on my TO30 is about 700. The dealers say to just cut back on the speed some, but if you are chipping large stuff (these are 5 inch chippers), cutting back on speed may not be an option. Comments?

I have a 5in limb capable for my Allis-Chalmers D-17, 54 PTO HP. Of course the chipper is for 540rpm, but I let it spin higher, depending on what I am chipping. I don't use too much large stuff, I burn logs.

The chipper has a large & heavy flywheel that keeps the momentum built up. This is what keeps that big wheel turning. The tractor jgives it power to get back up to speed after chopping up limbs.

Go the 540 route, it will be fine. Keep the PTO shaft as level as possible to reduce stress on PTO universal joints and abuse on your PTO drivetrain.
