TO35 ignition switch

Ok I have everything wired, but it won't stay running, it will turn over but when I let off the starter button it quits. I have a 3 pole ignition switch, one to the lights, one to the small pole on the solenoid, one to the positive pole on the solenoid.
On the starter button I have one wire from the ignition switch and on the other pole I have two wires, one going to the coil, and the other to the safety switch. I am missing something, will someone please jog my memory?

Terry, you can go to the FENA web site and find wiring diagarams for both 6v and 12v TO-35s.

sounds like you have the coil wired to the starter instead of the ignition... move the coil wire to the other side of the starter switch (in effect to the ignition)..

i just made a new wire harness for a to35 a few weeks ago the coil wire certainly needs to be on the key switch side of the starter button

First let me say that I'm unfamiliar with the TO-35 starting circuit but I will venture a guess. Your solenoid should have a battery lead connected to it on one side and then another lead should go to the starter. These will be heavy cables. Then I would expect a small wire to come off the battery side of the solenoid and go to the starter button On the other side of the starter button, the wire should go to the remaining pole on the solenoid. In other words, that button energizes the solenoid which closes the circuit between the battery and the starter. Since you have a neutral safety switch, it must be in series with the push button switch in order to prevent starter operation in all but the neutral position.

Finally, I think that you should have a connection from the battery side of the solenoid to the ignition switch with the other side of the ignition switch being connected to the ignition coil. I think your problemis that the ignition coil is connected to the small side of the solenoid so it only has power when the starter button is pressed and the neutral safety switch is engaged.
