MF 85 good and bad

Can anyone give me the pro"s and con"s to a MF 85? I"m looking at buying a gas 85 and I"m trying to decide if there is any call for one. Thanks.

The MF 85 is a very good tractor. I have 2 MF 85 gas tractors, one 85 diesel, two Super 90 diesels. The brakes are good, unless the axle seals leak. The power steering pump has not been a problem with any of the Massey's that I have. The tractors listed above are all in very good condition,and still doing a days work.

Do you mean the Ferguson style 20-85 or the Massey Ferguson 85 that looked like a high arch 65? (60 hp). If it's the last one, you get a tractor that is scary fast on the road, indifferent brakes, very rare parts and a huge appetite for gasoline. Like 70 gallons per day on heavy loads. I had one and when I switched to a similar sized diesel tractor, I thought thew fuel gauge was stuck because it didn't move throughout the day. One place where the 85 really was good was blowing snow. Great transmission and independent PTO.

Tom, Are you a little high on the fuel consumption
or were your days really long? We sold many 85's
and never had complaint on the fuel consumption
for the work they did. Also did not have a lot of
brake problems. But I agree parts are probably a
little tough especially if you need the little
pump for the independent PTO and P.steering. We
had people trade them off for a bigger one, only
to buy one back because of the short steer manuv-
erability and good range of speeds. These tractors
had many problems when new but with the update
packages put in over the first years they were
better used than new. My 2 cents, Chuck

Thanks guys. It is a Massey Ferguson 85. It does have a PS leak down the front pedestal and no brake and a Hyd leak on the right side. Any ideas on what"ll take to fix these? Thanks.
