I will be changing the oil for the first time on my recently inherited Fergi TO 35. How much oil does it hold? What is the oil filter number? From what I have found on here everyone seems to like using 15w 40 Rotella. Just needing know to how many quarts or gallons to buy.

Thanks

CJ

Forgot to address capacity. Here's what you do. Buy two gallons. Put one in and start the tractor and check for any leaks. (No need to risk all your oil if there is a leak, and 4 qts is enough to start and run it a few moments.) After you shut it off, open the other one and put in the correct amount until it's full but not overfull. You'll have more than enough left over for all your lawnmowers. Using this method it doesn't really matter whether it holds 4.75 or 5.5 or whatever. Simple, eh, and you don't have to remember a bunch of numbers for next time.

I guess it all depends on what oil you are talking about. Engine or Hydraulic? If engine oil, what type of engine? Diesel or Gas?

If Gas you use 5 US quart. and 6 if you change the filter.

Engine crankcase uses:
SAE 30 above 50F ... can use 10W-30 year round.

hope this helps.

Hi Jeff,
This is the engine oil. It is a gas tractor with a z134 continental gas engine. I was curious also on what filter number it takes. I was reading where someone was using 15w 40 in a continental gas engine. You think 10w 30 is better?

Thanks

CJ

I have a 1959 TO-35 w/z134, I have tried 10W-30, 10W-40, straight 30W, and 15W-40. The oil consumption and leakage seems to be best with the 15W-40, the oil also stays cleaner. The 15W-40 is SAE rated for gas (spartk) engines too, and according to some posts on here, the additive package meets the needs of these old solid lifter engines better than the new oils for the gas engines
