If you have a TO/TE-20 or a TO-30,and don't have a dipstick, remove the lower bolt in the right handside access plate. The transhydraulic fluid should just run out the bottom of that bolt hole when the resevoir is full. you should do thsi with the 3 pt. lift in the full up position.

Mike, You're saying raise the lift armes to check transmission fluid. .With arms lifted the fluid should check full and with arms down it will check above full mark?

yes (to your first statement) theoretically (to your question) i only check it with the arms raised, never really checked them when down so i don't really know. all i know is that's what i read in the book so that's how i check it.

robert...by checking the dipstick! 80) i can't remember what tractor you have, but look on the right side of the transmission, right below your seat, there should be a dipstick there. you need to check the level with all cylinders extended, by raising the lift arms...then check it.

Thanks your right I do have a dip stick just have never notice it. Now I have another Question should the fluid look milky like theres water in the oil, or is that the norm for mineral oil?

Water can get in around the bottom of the gear change lever so fit a rubber boot to it. it will also get in through the Control Spring at the back of the seat, so keep it covered up. It really needs a new seal but covering it is cheaper and takes less time....John

robert, well...when mineral oil gets churned up and a little air gets in it, it can look a "little" milky. but it should be kind of opaque still. if it's pretty much a solid milky color it's probably got water in it. if that tractor has sat outside alot and the rubber around the gearshift is cracked and dry, rain water can get in the transmission oil. if this is a new "to you" tractor you probably don't know how long that oil has been in there since it was last (if ever) changed...so for your own peace of mind you might want to go ahead and change it out. that way you will KNOW it's good oil and when it was last changed. plus, it will give you a chance to clean out the inside of the tranny case and remove any accumulated sludge that might be in the bottom of it.
