T0-35 Ferguson for an International 300??

i'm trying to find out the value of a 1955 Ferguson to-35?? i have one in excellent shape..and an older gentlemen has stopped by 2 or 3 times wanting to buy it. He stopped by yesterday and offered to trade me an International 300 that he is fully restoring "new paint,decals,battery,4 new tires,electrical" the whole 9 yards apparently. The 300 is a 57 model i believe and has only 856hrs on it. Also a draw bar and a 3pt conversion slide. He tallied up roughly $3700 in parts on this 300 including the original purchase price of $2600 Any input on either tractor would be greatly appreciated..i know nothing of the International as of yet...but i do know the Ferguson has been a damn good tractor so far. Thanks in advance..

I think I would want to know more about your tractor before making a judgement...'55 was the first year for the 35... Special?, Deluxe? An early serial number? Original? Low hours?... On the surface, it sounds like a decent deal, but it also depends on what you use it for... the 35 is lower, fits in a smaller space and more nimble.... the 300 has a slightly bigger engine (about 160? cubes), but not as many gears (I think) And as I recall, IH had their own 2 point fast-hitch, which means that your 3-point stuff (if you have any) would not work without some conversion... not sure on the difference between the special and deluxe?? the serial # is 156584. i know offhand it has the original tach..but i"m sure the other gauges have been replaced. i know as well the emblems are missing..other than that it"s all original. Also the owner of the 300 has a drawbar for the 2pt setup and then an adapter he bought new to hook up any 3pt attachments..

The main difference is the deluxe has a two stage clutch, meaning if you depress the clutch half way to a notch the tractor will stop, and if you depress it all the way the PTO will stop (live pto). The special only has the single stage clutch.

It is a mid to late 55 model, (not one made in 1954), so it is not rare... I'd say follow your own instincts.. do you want red or gray?... Have you driven it? What is your emotional attachment to it? Are there others that would care? (girlfriend, wife, kids, grandkids?) etc.... Good Luck... Jim

okay it's a deluxe then with the 2 stage clutch..it's a handy little tractor. One more question for ya..Anyone have a ballpark figure on what a 300 in excellent shape goes for? The gentlemen wanting to trade "straight up" says he purchased the 300 5yrs ago for $2600..it has only 856hrs on it now..he's redone the whole thing..electrical,tore it down to paint it with 3 heavy coats of primer and 3 heavy coats of paint, which he's quoting me $125 for paint materials, $75 brand new decals, $600 for 4 new tires being installed this week, has a drawbar for the 2pt that was $125, and a brand new slide to hook up 3pt implements that was $285. oh and also a commercial grade battery that was $110 i'm lookin at around $4,000 not counting labor. i was just taken aback as to why you'd want to trade for a run of the mill Ferguson. i know he does tractor restorations..the name of the magazine escapes me right now at 1:30am lol..but he's had a couple of his tractors on the cover..

A question better asked on the IH forum... but my take would be this... the 300 sold for about $500 more than the 35 when they were new (meaning the 300 was sold as "more" tractor than the 35)... the 35 was the most popular tractor ever made and holds its value very well while the 300 was common but not as popular (meaning it is probably about a wash in terms of value for the same condition tractor). A used 35 would be about 3000-4000 depending on condition; I'd expect the 300 to come in the same ball park...

$125 is not a lot of cost for materials (meaning probably middle of the road materials) but probably as good as the original but your paint is only as good as the prep and the guy who did it. three coats is a lot of primer... (meaning.. what is he trying to cover up?)

necessary but adds no value... something you would have to have but already have with the 35

Is it a tricylce/rowcrop or a std? Have you driven it? What do you use yours for?.... Pulling?.. The H/superH/300 all make good entry level pulling tractors and can be greatly modified if you really get into it... the 35 pulls well stock but not much you can do after that..

Again... your choice... I don't think there is that much difference in value.. the 300 sounds like a shiny, red, newer looking tractor, ~15% more power, 500 lb heavier, not as popular or versatile as the 35 Good Luck Jim

far as i know now i'm assuming the 300 is a std. only mention of it other than the details i've listed is it has a wide front end..we have an H sitting down on the farm being neglected badly..and a Ford 900..both with tricycle frontends..only thing done at this point with the 35 is light brushhogging of fields once or twice a year to plant food plots..it's a toss up between the Ford and the Ferguson when we disc them up..9 times out of 10 it's the Ford..i used the 35 to mow a field for a church down the road about every to weeks at the end of the summer last year..assuming i'll do it all year now..looks like it's going to come down to how attached i am to the 35..i hate decisions like that lol..i would've preferred it better if i was told i was an idiot for even considering the trade..or an idiot for not jumping on it..lol. thanks for your replies as well..you've been very helpful..i've also considered the fact that he wants the 35 so bad as to possible make the trade on the agreement that i'll bring up the old H and pay for everything if he would do the labor to somewhat restore it..that'd be a little sweeter deal then

only sayin' that cuz i like mine so much. i just think all around, they're hard to beat but, do what you think best.

I"m with you,dont trade off the 35 for a 300. I had a TO 30 and a 300. the 300 was pos when I bought it. I thought I could fix it up but it needed more work then I thought.

the 300 will handle the disc better than either the 900 or the 35.. and getting the H back in service and spruced up a little would be attractive to me, but then the H and 300 are not too much different... If you decide, come back and tell us.. we like to hear the end of the stories too.. Jim
