Is the upper portion of the hood on a TO30 the same as a TO20 or TE20? I"m wanting to lengthen my hood on my TE20 and saw that a guy on E-bay had a TO30 hood for sale. It doesn"t have to be exact. I just needs to have the lines match.

Chris,

If that what your looking to do the "TO" hood will work. You will have to form a return flange on the bottom edge to match the "TE" hood. Sound like your making something for pulling.

Chris

I have a te 20, my neighbor has a to30. The hood are similar but not the same on the te 20 the dog legs extend the length of the hood. On the to 20 the dog legs end just past the radius and the hood extends down to the bottom line of the dog leg.

According to the parts list it is the same as a TO20 only...NOT a TE20

What i"m doing is this. I fabricated a cowling that slides over my radiator. It has two twelve inch electric fans one at the top on one side and one at the bottom on the other. The problem is that the forward fan won"t let the hood close. So i"m looking to extend my hood forward to clear the fan. I"m going to make extensions on frame to attach the bottom of the doglegs. I just need another hood that I can use to extend mine. I just don"t want to have to fabricated the extension. This is where I want to know if I can use a to20 or 30. Also I already have a door for accessong the fuel lid without opening the hood. I want to also make one for the radiator cap due to the fact that with the front bumper on you can"t open the hood without removing the bumper.

I'm like John, not trying to be nosy, but it sounds like you got something fun going on behind that radiator, like an engine swap or something. After watching that V6 Fergie on YOUTUBE that someone put on here the other day, I've got the itch to do that, too. Yea, I know, the safety thing and all that, but golly that would be a hoot to do!!

That all sounds interesting, if you take some pictures I would like to see just what and how you have done it, if that isn't too much trouble to send them.....fergusontractors(at)tiscali.co.uk
Thanks, John

I"ll tell ya what. John, i"ll get it cleaned up and shot you some pics so they will be blown up and clear. Then i"ll post a few shots in the tractor photo section. No, i"m not doing an engine swap. Though I wish I had. I have a stubborn TE20 with an overheating issue. I had the engine rebuilt, installed a new radiator, water pump, and thermostat and its still overheating. So I built this cowling as a last try. And it seems to have helped. The rear fan is mounted on the top and is wired to the ignition switch. The front fan is mounted on the bottom and is wired to a toggle switch. When ever it starts getting into the red I hit the toggle on the second fan. This brings the temperature back down to a comfortable level. I work evenings so i"m not a morning person. I"ll try to go out tommorrow and take some pics.

Have you tried a 7lbs.psi Radiator Cap on there? it may help.

I bought a new radiator cap but I don't know the psi. I'll check and get back with you. I just posted some pics in the tractor photos section.

The normal one is 4lbs.psi but the 7lbs.psi increases the pressure so the engine can run at a higher temperature before it starts to boil.It may help your problem, look for any leaks as this will stop it pressurising and it will boil sooner at lower temperatures.
