i have a Harry Herguson TO-20-probably a 1950. Recieved a 3 set of manuels i ordered--2 of the manuels are for Massey Ferguson. Both the service manuel(tune up) and the Parts Manual are for Massey Ferguson-i figure the Service/tuneup manuel might work ok, but i thought the parts were not interchangeable. Does anyone here know?
spring just around the corner, oh man that was a long febuary.
thanks

mike, just ordered an operators manual for a MF 165, gas or diesel. It covers just that model. I got it thru the MF dealer. I have an I&T manual that covers the TE 20 thru the TO 30. So mabe you have to make sure you are ordering the right manuals.

mike...unless those manuals specifically include the to-20, they aren't going to be much use to you. i don't know what models those Massey Ferguson manuals are for, but no matter what, there are a lot of differences between the Ferguson TO models and the MF models, except for the 35 tractors. my suggestion? order manuals specific to the TO-20 and 30 models.

these manuels are for TO 20 -TO 30, Tea20, tractors, the parts manuel is for a Massey-Ferguson, my tractor is a Harry Ferguson.
---It was here I read awhile back that the although the Massey and Harris tractors are alike---the parts are not interchangeable--something to do with when Massey and Harris split into separate companies.

mike...i'm no expert on this, but i think harry ferguson worked with and developed the "ferguson system" for ford tractor co. he had a falling out with ford so for a while, (late 40's maybe?) he went out on his own making the fergie line of tractors which included the TO line. about 1960 he merged with massey, which began the massey ferguson line. i'm not sure what your question is, but if your parts manual is for a TO-20, then you have the correct manual. ferguson was the only one who made the TO-20. now if your parts manual INCLUDES the TO-35, the later ones WERE made by massey ferguson. maybe your manual was distributed by massey ferguson, but if it's for a TO-20 then that is the parts book for it. i hope i'm helping here.

Mike,
Very well stated. But the way I understand it is, Harry ferguson already had the 3 point system developed prior to the "Hand shake" agreement with Ford in 1938. I assume he needed a way to market it. Ford provided that avenue. Again this is how I interpret the information I have read. Although each man was very talented in his own right. Recently Ford Rouge is offering tours of the facility that did the entire process in one huge collection of manufacturing plants. The first product to roll off the line was not a car but a Fordson tractor!

Check the various sites pasted below.

Sincerely, John Mason
