Saw it on the way home this morning from breakfast. Looks complete and comes with a 2 bottom plow, cultivators, and a 3 point bush hog that looks older than the hills. Thinking of stopping by tomorrow to test drive. I've never owned a Ferguson and don't know zip about them. Guy's asking $2500 for the lot. If it runs out ok, does this sound like a good (ar at least fair) deal? Tires are excellent all around. Needs paint. Good sheetmetal.

Thanks for any pointers.

Heres a well put together shopping list of things to look at. This is writtn for a Ford but most items would still apply. Around here if it moves under its own power its 1500 and goes up from there depending on condition. Take a FASHLIGHT and look in the gas tank and radiator. Fresh antifreeze means its well maintained or just changed to hide the oil. Rust gas tanks are a pain and source of lots of fuel problems, all of which can be corrected with $$$

In addition to what Mike said, check the steering. If it has been left outside, sometimes water gets down the steering shaft and freezes and ruins the bearings and maybe even cracks the housing. The housings are not available new any more, and replacing the bearings and seals is not particularly hard, but it is a cumbersome job.

indy..if it's a good runnin' tractor without much wrong with it, and the implements are in working order (woulda been nice if he was sellin' a little disc harrow with it tho) it sounds like a halfway fair price. if that's his asking price i'm sure he has a number in mind that he'll actually sell if for. first thing i do when looking over a fergie is to check that oil, if it looks milky be suspicious of a cracked block. brans new oil always makes me suspicious. i'd rather see good old used black oil in it. if you can when you go to hear it run, put one of the implements on the 3 pnt. and see how well the hydraulics work. raise it up, shut the engine off or depress the clutch and see how long it holds. check around the rear axle's for leaking seals. there will be oil on the rims if they do. can't think of anything else right now. just remember that it's probably 50 or moere years old so it won't be perfect. most mechanical parts can be found for it still, so fixing up halfway minor stuff won't be much of a problem...unless that dern block is cracked.

Mike, You know darn well he can get a disc harrow at auction at a fair price (ha-ha). Seems like those are rare finds. I am thinking I'll go into the harrow buisiness. John
