My TO-20 Doesn't have a temp-guage is this normal for a 1950 tractor?

The hole in the goose neck is pipe thread, 3/8 inch if I remember right. The adaptor that comes with most temp guages is 1/2 inch pipe. Go to NAPA and buy just the adaptor for 3/8 pipe (if that's the size it is) and you're good to go. You can't put the bourden tube bulb with its attached nut directly into the casting - there is a sealing shoulder on the bulb that will only seal on an adaptor. I hope this makes sense - it's easy to see in my mind but not always easy to say.

I have found the spot on the goose neck for the the temp gauge sender to thread into, but I'm having quite a bit trouble finding an adapter to accomodate the sender. The one I got with the gauge is too big for the hole in the goose neck. I'm thinking that the only option I have is to remove the goose neck, and have the hole enlarged and new threads machined in. I really would like to avoid this. Any ideas? Thanks guys.

As John says, the fitting for the insert for the gauge is on the neck where the top hose connects to the block. On my TO-30's it's on the left side. Also, on most of the dashes on these tractors which have no temp gauge, if you look closely on the left side of the dash on the underside you might see an indentation where a round hole can be punched. The normal 2 inch gauges will fit that hole. You can buy these gauges from most all the good mail order places.

You can fit one to your engine, there is provision for it in the swan neck on the front of the Cylinder head that the top hose attaches to.
