TO-30 questions

I have a TO-30 with a Z-129 Continental. I dropped a valve but luckily didn't hurt anything else. I finally have chased down all the parts needed but I have some questions:
1.) What is the bag of string for that was included in the gasket set?
2.) What is the torque spec for the head?
3.) What is the tightening sequence for the head?
4.) What is the torgue spec for the manifold?

Any help would be appreciated!!

I'm presently restoring a '49 TO-20. Nearly identical to the TO-30. The package of string is the "Rear Bearing Cap Packing". The rear bearing is part of the block when installed. The packing (string) is used to seal the parting line between the block and the bearing cap. It has nothing to do with the head. This is the instructions to install the head according to the Ferguson TO-20 & TO-30 manual: "Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the block and head. Choose the proper head gasket (TE and TO models had no water by-pass hole in the front end of the gasket. Late TO-20 and all TO-30 models have the hole). Gaskets with the hole may be used on any model tractor and gaskets without a by-pass hole can esily be punched to have an opening for the by-pass hole. NEVER install a gasket withou taking special pains to see that this water opening is not sealed shut. Coat the gasket on both sides with a commercial sealing compound. If no compound is available, cup grease may be used. Tighten the head nuts in the proper sequence, from the center out and use a torque wrench for final tightening to 70-75 pound-feet. Tightening the nuts in wrong sequence on a dry gasket may result in a cracked cylinder head. Tightening the bolts too tight may distort the block, ruining the precision valve job you have just finished".

1. the string is to tie the gasket to the head,cover pan,manifold etc. for easier assembly.
2. Prior to installing the bolts, clean out the threads in the block with a tap, using light pressure. This will remove carbon and rust that will cause the bolt to sieze and make you think it is tight. The torque is approx. 85 ftlb., I think!
3.Tighten from the middle out, alternating L to R. My own style, is to torque to 40# first, then go back to start point and finish to 85#.
4. I wouldn't go higher than 35# on these, and I would use new bolts.

Retorque after getting up to operating temperature and allowing to cool.
