Well I just bought my second antique tractor and the wife is signing me up for some help. Doc says some shots and therapy and I will be ok. My first is a 1946 Ford 2N that is in the process of restoring. I just got this TO30 for too good a deal to let slide, $750. All it needs is some TLC and new paint. I think it may need a clutch or the at a minimum some adjustment. Have not tackled a clutch project on one of these so I am not real sure how difficult it is. Any ideas would be appreciated. The clutch pedal seems to be intermittant. Sometimes when I puch it in and try to put it in gear the gears grindlike the clutch is not engaged. Other times it goes in to gear right away. I know it is low on Hydraulic fluid and mayne that has something to do with it. I am not going to add any to the old, gonna trash it all and start with new fluid. We will see if that helps. No sense tearing it apart without trying the simple things first. Anyway enough rambling. Look forward to being a Fergy owner. THis pup seems to have a whole lot more juice than the 2N.

Welcome to the world of Ferguson's! The first thingi's advise you to do is buy a Ferguson Shop Manual, a Parts Manual, & an Operating Manual for your TO-30. Don't get the IT manual, get the Ferguson manuals. Read about how to operate it and how the systems work. They'll save you a lot of time when you have to repair something and they'll pay for themselves in no time.

Fords are like a gateway drug or tractor. You start there and before you know if you need more! I started with a 43 2n, then a 49 8n, now a 55 TO35

ralph...first of all you tell that doctor not to touch you! you're ok...it's the rest of the world that's messed up!

second, the hydr. oil won't have anything to do with your clutch not disengaging. try adjustiing it first, then go from there. if it doesn't work there's other possibilities to try before you have to replace the clutch. splitting one isn't too bad but make sure you do it right so you don't get yourself in a bind...which leads me to the third thing. lots of good knowlege on this forum and folks more than willing to help you out. get yourslf set up with a couple manuals, then get that 30 runnin' like a top. any troubles you run into get on here and ask and welcome to the world of fergie!

AH! another middle tenn. tractor nut! i'm over here in west tenn. just south of lexington.

hey, you do know that you don't shift that tractor like a car right? you pretty much have to almost stop to shift, 'specially down shifting! if your tractor has been sitting for a while it could be that your clutch is not dis-engaging from rust or corrosion on the shaft. let us know how your adjusting works out. if you can't clear up the problem, these guys on here can give you some pretty good ideas on how to get 'er fixed up.
