Jeff, I posted this on an earlier post that you were involved in concerning doglegs for TE and TO tractors. Unfortunately, you probably didn't see my post since it was a couple of days after the original. Anyway, when you say that the TE20 has a single piece dogleg and that the TO20 has a 2-piece dogleg, do you mean that the TO20 dogleg has 2 pieces riveted together about midway between the front and dash? If that is true, it explains something that I was wondering about. My 1952 TEA20 has a two piece dogleg riveted together about midway between the dash and the front and is bolted to the hood. The TEA hood support mechanism guided by the rails on the hood was retained. I have the "Ferguson" side plates on the dogleg (one is missing). Details in some of the pictures posted on this site are hard to see but I haven't seen a TEA with the side plates yet. When I asked John UK if the TEA had these side plates, he suggested that they were installed on the TO but that he was not aware that they were installed on the TEA. These parts are not available for the TEA version in the Sparex or YT parts lists but they are available for the TO. From this, I am guessing that someone installed the doglegs from a TO on my TEA. I am looking at replacing the doglegs at sometime and think that I should be ordering the TE versions for my TEA. Am I correct or not?
Ron

Hmmmmm mm!!!!

I too also have a two piece dog leg on my '48 TE20. It is mid-way down the hood. there is a splice plate on the inside and nice formed head rivets on the out side.

This two-piece von figuration is different from the TO-20 in that the location of the splice is further back on the TE than the TO's I have seen.

In the photo above the TO side panel connection is an arc shape and only 1/3 of the way back (over Spark plug #1) MY TE has thee splice over Spark plug #3 or so and is about half way.

When I was told that the TE side were one piece I though mine were repaired. Now with people describing a similar set up perhaps there is another factory set up. I'll look into this further.

Jeff

There were some aluminium hood sides "doglegs" in the early 50's that were in two pieces on the TEA but they do interchange with the one piece type. The steel "doglegs" for the TEA and TE were never like that, always one piece. You can get suitable side-plates from Sparex for the tractor, part number S61940 for the pair, they were made for the TO20 but they will fit the TEA. The Hood on a TE is the same as a TEA.

Clifford, is that the original bonnet on your tractor, the reason I ask is that as far as I can remember that aluminium bonnet was fitted to the very early diesels and they came out in 1951 but they were only used for a comparatively short time, if your tractor has had it on from new then it puts a whole new slant on things and maybe needs checking. I do know that the later TE's did not have that bonnet and they finished in 1948 so just what the explanation is I don't know at this time...John
PS Is it only the doglegs that are aluminium or is it the whole Bonnet?

we"ve had the TE20 from new and I"m not aware of the bonnet (hood) being changed. We looked after things on this farm, and all working gear kept in good order. No smashed up tinware so often seen elsewhere so, although I was kinda young at the time and wouldn"t really remember if it was changed in "51, I rather doubt it.

Interesting you mention the "Ferguson" side name plates. John (UK) says Fergies did not come from the factory with side plates, however most (all?) the Fergys in Australia (including my TEA20) have a printed aluminum side plate above the longitudinal ridge along the bonnet and a couple of inches forward of the bonnet rear edge. That aluminum plate looks very similar to the cast name plates fitted to TO20's.

Also in Australia most Fergys originally had a blue stripe along the bonnet ridge.

Both the aluminum name plates and the blue stripe appear to be an Australia only modification.

I have photos of the badges and my bonnet (one piece "doglegs"). Let me know if you would like the photos emailed.

Te20s delivered by the Queensland (state) Australian distributor had the blue stripe added to the side of the hood.
Tractors delivered by the NSW (state) Australian distributor had the rectangular aluminium plate attached on the front of the side panel just below the joint of the hood top panel, without any blue stripe.

I have seen a flat "Ferguson" plate but not one like the TO20 type on Australian tractors. BareCo do a version of this flat type part number B1234. Could you send me a picture of your plate please Bob. The blue stripe has cropped up on here a few times and as you say it appears to be something that was done when the tractor was imported into Australia, rather like the Canadian tractors, they also had different badging to the USA.

John. Sent you the photos of the printed aluminium bonnet side plates and a photo of their location on the bonnet, also showing the blue stripe.

Bob,
I sent you an email through this post requesting the pictures but haven't heard from you. Maybe I did it incorrectly. Could you forward any pictures and information concerning these side plates and the bonnet of your TEA. From the sound of things, the Ausie and Canuck versions had more in common than they did with the English version as far as variations of the bonnet decor. Maybe they have even more in common. My email is [email protected]. Thanks for the information.
Ron
